?Pegasus? is a 1977 Heritage 46 Center Cockpit Cutter white in color with black bottom paint, a full hard top and green canvas trim. She is in outstanding condition and shows as a much newer vessel both inside and out. Close inspection of this vessel will reveal there is nothing onboard remaining of 1977 vintage. She was been completely re-built in 2010 with a new 85HP Perkins engine, a new velvet drive transmission, a new stainless steel shaft, new dripless shaft seal and a new Lucas ?feathering? three blade propeller. A new four batten main sail and cutter sail were added including a Mack Pack main sail cover & lazyjack system (A three position boom gallows supports the boom).
The hydraulic steering system was completely re-built incorporating a new Simrad A-720 hydraulic autopilot system. The large Ideal windlass was also removed and factory rebuilt. A complete maintenance log of all systems is available for review.
All of her rigging, included but not limited to, her stays, guides, and chain plates were replaced in 2001. Dyform wire was used on both the forestay and backstay. Norseman fittings were installed in all rigging. The mast, spreaders and boom were all stripped and re-painted with white Imron paint. The topside was also repainted with white Imron.
A recently installed 7 KW Kubota Generator (850 operating hours since new), and dual 60Amp Pro-Mariner battery chargers power eight new Trojan T-105 batteries in the 950Amp Hour battery bank. Twin Kyocera solar panels and a Kiss wind generator maintain most daily 12V power requirements. The main power panel was upgraded with all digital readouts including a BMV digital battery monitoring system. She is fully equipped with a Vetus 6hp Bow thruster, and a PUR 80 Reverse Osmosis watermaker supporting twin 75 gallon water tanks.
Her bottom has recently been completely stripped, inspected, a new barrier coat applied with Micron 66 ablative antifouling paint in 2013. All of the major thru hull valves have been upgraded since 2001 with new Groco Bronze sea valves.
The ground tackle is impressive. She carries a new Rocna #40 anchor with 150 ft of 3/8in BBB high strength chain and 100ft of 3/4in rode and a Bruce #20 with 100 ft of 3/8 BBB high strength chain and 100ft of 3/4 in rode. The large Ideal windlass was factory rebuilt and re-chromed in 2010.
Pegasus is a very comfortable cruising boat. Being a center cockpit vessel, with hydraulic steering, she is very easily handled. Her large bowthruster makes docking and maneuvering easy. Cutter rigged, she is a very ?dry? boat going to weather (usually not more than a 10 to 15 degree of heal while making a good 5 to 6 knots under way). The 85hp Perkins will push her to the hull speed of 8 knots in emergencies. Two fuel tanks contain a total of 150 gallons.
At the helm you are enclosed by a full hard top with digital LED lighting. All navigation lights are USCG approved LED?s . Complete Eisen glass surrounds the cockpit area with complete bug screens and sun shades when necessary. An ACR Automated Information System (AIS) works directly with the Garmin GPSmap 4208 full color chartplotter incorporating full XM weather capability. All engine gauges were replaced with new. A new Furuno model 1750 digital radar system provides 25 nautical mile capability. She is equipped with a Vetus 6hp Bow thruster for easy docking.
The interior is very spacious due to her 16ft beam. There is more than six foot of headroom throughout the boat. At the bottom of the entryway a settee faces the ?U? shaped dining area. The large navigation station is immediately on the left. The mast is deck stepped, therefore no mast interferes with the interior beauty. Forward is the ?V? berth with storage, hanging locker, and a separate head. From the main salon there is a walk-thru to the aft cabin which provides access to the spacious engine room, battery and storage lockers.
The aft suite contains a queen berth with lots of storage, hanging lockers and a cedar lined drawer for bedding, blankets, etc. The aft suite also contains the master head and a large stand up shower with seat. The vessel has lots of storage areas. The interior was completely renewed since 2001. New Corel counter tops and new upholstery was installed in 2010. Custom marble counter tops grace both the settee and aft salon areas. The interior floors are all parquet teak.
The interior hull area of Pegasus was completely insulated and finished with white Formica and Teak stripping to insure a dry hull and clean crisp look. New mattresses were custom built and installed in both the V berth and aft cabin. New portlights were installed in 2001 with new bronze screens. PortVisors were installed to allow upper ports to remain open during rains.
A 16,000 BTU CruiseAir reverse cycle air conditioner provides AC and interior heating. Both fwd and aft heads are fitted with Vacu-Flush fresh water toilets. A 25 gallon holding tank supports both heads. A PUR 80 Reverse Osmosis watermaker supports twin 75 gallon fresh water tanks.
The 8cuft top loading refrigerator and 6 cuft freezer are both Frigoboat 12V keel cooled systems controlled with new digital Carel thermostats. A built in 12v/110v Engel 45 refrigerator/freezer handles all drinks and snacks for quick access.
An entirely new Navigation station was installed in 2001. Radios include an ICOM IC-710 MF/HF SSB Marine Transceiver, an ICOM IC-M504 DSC VHF radio, and a second ?backup? ICOM IC-M502 DSCVHF radio both supported by a Furuno GP-32 GPS/WAAS system for distress system support. Also at the Navsta is a Polaroid 14in HDTV monitor unit mounted on a swing out arm allowing viewing from the Navsta, settee and galley areas. A signal strength booster system is installed for great TV reception.
An 11ft AB RIB is mounted on davits aft, with a Nissan 9hp outboard for shore side visits.
Pegasus is a truly unique sailboat which has been lovingly restored with state of the art systems and carefully maintained. The vessel?s maintenance log is available for review. At 46 ft in length she is large enough to comfortably live aboard, yet easily handled at sea. Pegasus was designed by a Morgan/Hunt collaboration and built by Heritage Yacht specifically for cruising the Caribbean islands. She has a modified full keel configuration with a centerboard. She drafts only 5.5ft with the C/B up and 9ft with the C/B deployed.
This Heritage is an exceptionally spacious boat and overbuilt by Heritage Yacht co-designed by R. Hunt and Charley Morgan to cruise the islands and take the rigors of ocean passages. It is the largest 46' production boat that was ever built and has an interior size comparable to a 52'. You must go on board to get the feel!
Latest survey executed 5/2013 identified the following:
?VESSEL DESCRIPTION: "Pegasus" may well be the best maintained sailing vessel that I have surveyed. All system from the engine down have been
renewed in recent years. The hull and deck appear as new. Based on the condition of the vessel and all systems,"Pegasus cannot be compared with the same make and model vessel that research turned up. She must be compared with more current blue water sailing vessels. It will take a very knowledgeable sailor to recognize the value of this vessel.?
