We are suckers for pretty much anything with flared fenders and a motorsport heritage. This car checks those boxes with focused intent. Built and upgraded over many years, this final evolution is a fun canyon carver that punches well above its weight class.
The engine. Lets talk about the engine first - our favorite part of this car. Opening up the engine bay through the GT full perforated lid, you are greeted with a proper looking 2.8L Porsche air-cooled 6 cylinder. Weber carburetors with rain hats, natural fiberglass shrouds, new hoses, plug wires, and detailed Porsche script valve covers just make you want to hear it at full song.
Three slow pumps of the pedal (cold start) and a turn of the key, and the engine barks to life. After a minute, give it couple tentative prods of the accelerator and you immediately notice the lightened flywheel and balanced internals
it spins up and down very quickly. Taking the car out on our standard test loop, you are greeted with smooth shifting, explosive acceleration, tight suspension, and confident braking.
We may or may not have taken a second test loop in this onewhat a delight.
The Signal Orange paint with flared fenders just makes you picture the race winning GT cars of the period. Such a glorious time in motorsport with road car trickle down details. If you bleed Porsche like many of us do, this car will make you smile just from staring at it, never mind driving it.
This car was featured in six-page article in Classic Porsche Magazine (you can see a scan of the article in the gallery below) which includes numerous details on the build philosophy.
Fresh exterior re-paint in Winter 2016, and newly painted black rockers. Trim, rubber, and glass are all in good condition. White number circle is removable vinyl, freshly applied in July 2017 (no paint fading if removed). Car still features largely original Signal Orange paint in trunk and engine bay areas.
This is literally and figuratively the heart of this car. Period correct detailing is delightful on the visual side of the build. Assembly and design direction was by Bernd Buschen of European Autowerke. Starting with a 7R case, Ollies did the case machining and blueprinting work. Parts supplied - J&E pistons, Solex cams, Weber 40mm carburetors to go with the Porsche factory bits. Weber rain hats keep the vintage look going with a nod to practicality. The engine is rated at 230hp. A custom front trunk mounted oil cooler (has displaced the spare to the rear trunk) keeps things right at temperature
very stealth and sanitary install. The engine was built in 2013, and has less than 6,000 miles on it since then. The 901 transmission was rebuilt in 2015, and shifts excellent into all gears.
The interior is clean and purposeful. Carpets, door cards, seats are all clean and devoid of any flaws. Momo Prototipo steering wheel in black. Headliner is in great condition (along with the overall removable top), gauges all work correctly, and all lighting is working.
Rides very sporty, and performance oriented. Front and rear sway bars, rebuilt master cylinder and brake calipers. Koni shocks with adjustable coilover perches in the rear. Bushings, bearings, etc.
all new or rebuilt over the last 6-10 years of ownership and maintenance.
7 fronts and 8 rears with 205/60-15 and 225/60-15 tires, respectively. New wheel studs and open lugs.
This 1973 Porsche 914-6 GT Tribute is offered with a binder of records from the three most recent owners (back to 2004), and a copy of the Classic Porsche magazine it was featured in.
Fresh off a service and tuning, the car needs nothing to be enjoyed right now. Pick it up quickly, before we steal that engine out of it to put on a display here in the showroom.
