I bought this bass mid-restoration when Larry Davis was fixing it up. It was originally a 1972 4001 Mapleglo in pretty worn condition. It had a lot of rusty parts and flaking chrome on the original tailpiece, and a wonky custom black pick guard that was terribly misshapen and cracked. Now, if you're a stickler for authenticity and simply gotta have all the right vintage parts, this is not the bass for you. Here is what is vintage: original body/neck assembly; Toaster-top pickup; High-gain pickup; Wavy Grover tuners; wiring (as far as I can tell - I am not an expert on the electronic stuff); knobs and switches.
Here is what was replaced with new: Checker and outer binding body and neck; frets; tailpiece and bridge; treble-pickup surround and all mounting screws; treble-pickup cover; pickguard; overall finish. The finish was my choice, a bright mid-blue, so it is brighter than the typical Azureglo. If you're fussy about that, well . . . . This is one gorgeous bass with the playability and most of the looks of the classic '72 Rick. Full-width crushed pearl inlays are in great shape, too. Comes with a black tolex case in average condition.
I want $2950 plus shipping. I spent more on it than that, but I can stand to lose a little. I can ship overseas but it may cost several hundred dollars.
