Lithgow SMLE (John Jovino) - SPF
Available on
Northeast Shooters
Reading, MA

Location :
Reading, MA
Description :
This is a John Jovino Co (JJCO) "bitser" rifle from the early 1990s.
If you know about these JJCO rifles, great; if not, I'll add a blurb about them below the pics so you'll know exactly what you're getting.
Rifle is a great shooter, as reliable and slick as any Enfield.
Bore's a little frosty, but with STRONG rifling.
Receiver is dated 1917, bbl 1918; the nose cap is obviously WWII vintage, and the rear sight ears are 1942.
The wood is nearly perfect: no cartouches or service blemishes, but you're not buying this SMLE as a collector's item anyway (unless you've got a thing for JJCO rifles...)
Accessories :
I've got a sling somewhere if you want it; I'll also include an RFI Indian pattern 07 bayonet, the late-war type with the squared pommel.
I think it was made in 1944, but it was certainly made before 1947.
No sheath, unfortunately.
The bayonet is also not a collector's piece, but it fits perfectly and it's great for going into your backyard with a greatcoat and pretending you're in the trenches.
Selling Terms :
FTF within 25 miles of me on an efa-10.
We can do an FFL transfer on the North Shore on your dime, if that makes you more comfortable.
If you're an out-of-stater with an 03 FFL, let me know and we can work out shipping.

About the JJCO SMLEs:
Once upon a time, a Manhattan gunshop owner named John Jovino decided there was a market for new-looking, as-issued SMLEs.
He bought up every spare part the Australian government still had in the late 1980s, brought them into his shop, and began assembling them.
They sold like hotcakes; I bought this one in 1998.
To clarify:
nothing on this rifle is newly manufactured.
All the "bits" were produced for WWI or, in some cases, WWII.
They've got a reputation as beautiful rifles with not-so-beautiful headspace, but I gauged it and mounted a longer bolthead about 15 years ago and it's a totally safe shooter now.
I've put hundreds of rounds through this guy with no issues at all; it's as rugged as a new example.
Since I bought this, though, I've become a collector who cares about matching numbers and things, so this SMLE doesn't get out much anymore.
Time to give it a new home.
