2001 BMW F650GS Dakar
44,345 miles
Clean California title
Registered until February, 2017 in California
Very Good condition overall, some cosmetic blemishes as befits an adventure tourer
Located in Noe Valley / Mission, San Francisco.
I bought the bike from its first owner in 2004 with 4,xxx miles on it, and I've maintained it regularly myself since then. It's currently due for a valve-clearance check.
Never crashed on the street. Fallen over many times in dirt, grass, and sand, with minor cosmetic results, never any major damage.
I bought this bike in 2004 from its first owner and it's been tons of fun. It's a great inexpensive adventure touring platform, a very competent street bike, and it gets excellent fuel economy (over 50mpg unless you thrash it really hard, 60+ if you take it easy). Mechanically this bike is excellent, cosmetically it's good. It comes with lots of extras (partial list below).
Always garaged.
Continental TKC70 tires front and rear, nearly new.
Stock expandable BMW hard luggage with stock BMW bag liners included. The hard luggage is somewhat banged up on the outside.
Touratech Zega top case with Touratech key-lock mounting rack / plate and Touratech bag liner. The mount is structurally strengthened by Advanced Welding in Mountain View, California.
Touratech center stand (indispensable!).
Suspension custom valved and rebuilt front and rear by Phil Douglas of Aftershocks, using custom modified Race-Tech emulators in the front. New fork seal recently installed on left fork, with new fork oil, of course. Pretty new seal and oil in the right fork. Rear shock is working fine but it's about time for a regular service on it.
RKA tank bag in very good condition included. All zippers work and map pocket is still transparent (though obviously not new).
MotoBatt AGM battery (much longer life than traditional battery, no maintenance).
17-tooth countershaft sprocket (one tooth larger than stock) installed for taller gearing. Stock countershaft sprocket is included, so switching back would be easy.
The rear sprocket on the bike is worn; it comes with a new rear sprocket (not installed).
Touratech license plate holder brace (indispensable!).
It's time to check and set the valve clearances.
One turn signal lens is held on with tape -- it's been this way for years and is working fine.
Air filter just replaced with a new one.
New tapered roller steering bearings installed a few thousand miles ago.
Extra parts included (not installed on the bike):
Spare clutch cover with new clutch cover gasket
New 17-tooth countershaft sprocket from Sprocket Specialists
Stock 16-tooth countershaft sprocket with lots of life left in it
New BMW stock rear sprocket
New fork seals
New rear spokes and nipples
Old but unused Pirelli MT70 semi-knobby rear tire
At least one extra inner tube
Cash only. If you want to test ride this bike, you will need to pay cash first and bring it back undamaged from the ride for a full refund if you find a problem with the bike during the ride.
