I've owned a lot of bikes (4) FZ1's and I'll tell you these bike get it done on the twisty back roads or distance touring. A guy I know did 1:56's at Thunderhill on a basically stock FZ1 with a penske shock. He's a really good rider, but that's hauling the mail at Thunderhill.
*08 R1 rear suspension with Satan adapter...quickens steering and handles 10 times
better than stock. Front forks have aftermarket 1.0 springs and fresh rebuild.

Maintained well and in great mechanical condition
Oil changes every 3k
New RK chain, oem front, and sunstar rear sprocket less than 1k miles ago
in last 10k had valve adjustment, front forks rebuilt, new throttle cable, new clutch
cable, new steering bearing, brake flush, radiator flush, new spark plugs, new air filter.
