Artiste Racine established the watch company bearing his name in La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland, in 1914. In addition to his "Racine" brand, he also established the "Enicar" brand ("Racine" spelled backwards). Racine produced his own movements in-house, which was not that common even in the early days of modern watchmaking. AR ("Artiste Racine") movements earned a solid reputation for high quality, even as Racine marketed and sold them at very reasonable prices. Here's a vintage Enicar "Star Jewels" with Racine's workhorse 17 jewel calibre AR1140 mechanical movement.
