The Girard Perregeux Chronometer HF Gyromatic Cal. 23A needs no introduction for those versed in horologic history.
The High Frequency Gyromatic Calibre 32A, established the Swiss watchmaker in first place in the race for a production quality 36,000 bph hi-beat movement in 1967.
The Chronometer HF series has a limited prodction run of 662 pieces, so this is a rare watch.
I've paired it up with a similarly uncommon GP Gyromatic High Frequency ladies watch, although the Ladies hi-beat runs at 28,800 bph.
Both watches will require service.
The Chronometer HF Gyromatic is in good shape with only few light scratches on the acrylic crystal.
Dial is good shape with a few scratches near the center but no major stains.
Gold plated crown is non-original and unsigned (though you have a potential GF donor crown from the ladies).
Manual wind works well and there is no quickset date but it does change properly.
20 micron gold plated case in in very good shape with only some minor peripheral loss on the under side.
No markings on the screw-down caseback but the inner caseback is properly signed.
Movement looks to be in good shape as is correctly 32A Chronometer signed; it runs slow and will need service for daily use.
On the Ladies GP Gyromatic High Frequency, the watch is cosmetically very good; some plating loss on the signed crown.
Quickest day/date work fine.
The main defect is the hand change in the clockwise position will occassionally slip; no issues in the counterclockwise position.
Movement also does run and keep decent time.
At one time I had opened the case but it was really difficult to realign the crystal gasket, so I won't try again; so movement pics on this one.
Style-wise these watches match each other and were produced in the same era; so they will be listed and only sold as a set, AS IS.
If you wanted to learn more about the GP HF Gyromatics, there's a great article on the Fratellowatches website.
If you plan to service this watch, please bring it to someone with experience with this vintage as there are specifics on lubrication/non-lubrication of certain parts.
This was a service project that ran out of time/resources for me so I'm passing the torch to someone else.
No/box/paper/tags but matching black leather straps provided and the hard-to-find original GP signed buckle is present on the men's watch. In excellent shape, these watches can easily fetch four figures and are general underpriced in the vintage realm; so here's a couple of historically significant watches for your collection price with some money left to spend on the service.
Plus your significant other can't complain you are spending your hard earned resources on just a watch for yourself!Shipping: Priority ConUS shipping is free and preferred.
However I will consider International Offers on a case-by-case basis.
Thanks for viewing!
