Description

The "Ermeto" case design was developed and patented in 1926 by the Huguenin Freres of Le Locle, Switzerland. The design called for a rectangular "hermetic" casing around a watch module, which could open and close to view the dial and also to "automatically" wind the watch each time the case was opened and closed. The Ermeto was marketed aggressively by Movado beginning in 1927, and was a huge success. Ermetos were manufactured in four different sizes in a variety of metal cases and coverings, including gold, silver, enamel and reptile skins. Here's a rare and beautiful Ermeto Chronometre in .935 sterling silver with gold inlaid horizontal stripes. MOVADO ("Ermeto") - Excellent 47x31mm (72x31mm opened) .935 sterling silver hermetic case with gold inlaid horizontal stripes, signed 15 jewel calibre 150MN chronometer movement with 4 adjustments, excellent aged original silver satin dial with full arabic luminous numerals, blued steel and luminous hands (no seconds), original crown. The .935 sterling silver case on this vintage Ermeto features inlaid gold horizontal stripes. The case is equipped with a rack-winding system which "automatically" winds the movement each time the case is opened. The signed 15 jewel Movado calibre 150MN chronometre movement is adjusted to 4 positions, was serviced January 2017, and is running fine and keeping excellent time. The original silver satin dial is in excellent aged condition, and is signed, "Chronometre, Movado, Swiss." The luminous material on the dial and hands is faded. VINTAGE MOVADO "ERMETO" CHRONOMETRE WITH ORIGINAL DIAL AND INLAID GOLD .935 STERLING SILVER CASE! Sell for $595 plus shipping ($15 US Delivery or $60 International via Global Express).
