This is a great sounding, one-of-a-kind dobro built by Murray Guitars of Richmond, VA (https://www.facebook.com/Murrayguitars/). If you scroll through his page, you will see build shots and video of this reso as well as other work by this luthier.
This guitar is owned by my good friend Joe Bird, who twice won second place in the National Reso Competition and was also the Virginia State dobro champ. Joe is now playing a dobro I built for him and he asked for my help in selling this.
This guitar can best be described as a hybridized Harlow/Schoonover. The body is wider and longer, per Harlows jumbo body, and the top is top-mounted in the same style as Schoonover. If you scroll through the pictures on the Facebook link above, you can see the immaculate building process with some shots on the tops bracing. This is a very well-built guitar by a professional builder, and it has wonderful volume and tone and plenty of punch and sustain.
The top is cedar, with mahogany back and sides. The neck is three-piece mahogany/maple/mahogany. Curly maple body and neck bindings. Scheerhorn cone. Schoonover modular spider. Grover tuners. The sides are tapered. The back is arched. Comes with a TKL case thats in excellent condition.
The guitar is in great shape, but it does show some light signs of wear here and there. The most obvious are a couple small finish gouges on the left side, upper bout, as photographed. The top has various small dings too (normal wear), which appear to just be finish-related and are too difficult to represent in a photo.
Here are some videos of Joe playing it:
Joe is asking $1600 obo. Buyer pays shipping.
