A pre-eBay listing for our respected WUS members (PM me if interested)....Description: Vintage Rare Transitional Grand Seiko 6245-9000 Automatic WatchPrice: $860 USD [firm], ConUS shipped.Condition: Pre-owned very good-excellent condition (may require service - see below)Dimensions: approx. 36mm wide excluding crown; 40mm lug-lug; 19mm strap/bracelet sizeAccessories: 19mm honey brown leather strap with deployment claspNotes: Up for sale is a Vintage Grand Seiko 6245-9000 Date-Only Automatic Watch. Those that follow vintage Grand Seikos know that the 39 Jewel high end Seikomatic 62 automatic movement later achieved chronometer grade status and ultimately became the Grand Seiko 6245/6.
A historic achievement as the 6245/6 was Grand Seiko's first automatic watch.
You have the opportunity to acquire an early production Grand Seiko 6245-9000 (dates to November 1966).
On the wrist the watch keeps good time but on the winder it is less accurate; the watch is due for service if you plan to wear it daily.
Cal. 6245 runs at 19800 bph, includes hacking seconds, date complication but no manual wind.
The crystal is New Old Stock so it is pristine and scratch free.
Light scratches on the case and caseback but the watch is in very good shape for a vintage.
Caseback markings still visible and an intact original undamaged lion medallion is in place.
As far as I can tell, the caseback and movement should be correct as this watch is likley a rare transitional model between the 6245-9000 lion medallion Seikomatic Chronometer (Oct 1965 - Aug 1966) and 6245-9001 GS medallion Grand Seiko (launched after Jul 1966) that share similar parts/rotors/caseback medallions.
To be accurate, this transitional Grand Seiko is model 6245-9000 with a non-Chronometer labeled rotor and a lion caseback medallion and 6245A movement.
Bidirection quickset works in mid crown position.
Movement looks good, but as mentioned, it is probably due for service.
The watch is paired with a sturdy honey brown non-original, lightly worn, 19mm croc grain strap with a deployment clasp.
Since I'm not wearing this watch in rotation, I'll pass the torch on the eventual service to someone else.
These watches are rare, historically significant and easily sell for four figures, but I'm letting it go at a fair and firm price.
No trades. No box/paper/tags.
Given that this is a pre-owned watch, service history is unknown, water resistance not guaranteed, and warranty unavailable.Shipping: ConUS shipping preferred and free.
International offers will be consider on a case-by-case basis and priced accordingly.Payment: $860 USD PayPal net to me; any additional charges such as customs fees are the responsibility of the buyer.
